Many Liverpool fans on social media heavily criticised Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy for his display during his side’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Monday.
The Man City left-back played the full 90 minutes against Spurs during their narrow win, and a large section of Reds supporters were very vocal on Twitter about how bad they thought he performed.
One Reds fan tweeted that they never want to hear Mendy called the best left-back in the Premier League again as he was caught out several times by Mauricio Pochettino’s side, while another labelled the player a fraud as in their opinion he couldn’t defend.
COMMENTARY
Liverpool fans were invested in Tottenham’s clash with Manchester City on Monday due to the fact that if Spurs denied Pep Guardiola’s side all three points, the Reds would have stayed top of the Premier League. However after Spurs lost 1-0 to last season’s champions, Man City took back top spot due to their superior goal difference as both them and the Reds have an impressive 26 points after ten games. Yet it seems that while Reds supporters were probably watching to cheer on Spurs, they couldn’t ignore sharing how awful Mendy was in their opinion. The 24-year-old left-back is often hailed as one of the best for his position in the division, and it seems at least of couple of fans couldn’t believe his glittering reputation based on his latest display. One even pointed out that Reds defender Andy Robertson was clearly the better left-back, which is certainly arguable at least given his form, while another hilariously compared him to Alberto Moreno. Moreno has been known to make a few costly errors for the Reds in his time, so it wasn’t the most flattering comparison as far as Mendy was concerned to say the least.
