Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has emerged as a shock target for Turkish club Besiktas, according to the Sun.
The newspaper reports on their website that the giant 6’2″ [Transfermarkt] shot-stopper – who is on £25,000-a-week [Spotrac] – is wanted on loan by the Super Lig and Europa League outfit, who have turned to the German after failing to sign fellow keeper Simon Mignolet because of his high wage demands.
Jurgen Klopp will reportedly decide which stopper to offload now the pair has attracted attention from Europe, with Mignolet claimed to being chased by Serie A club Napoli.
The Reds duo have been pushed down the pecking order after the arrival of Allison from Roma for a reported £67million.
OPINION
Besiktas appear to be very keen on Liverpool’s goalkeepers now they are looking at signing Karius after baulking at Mignolet’s wages. However, Karius has had more game time than Mignolet recently, so it seems more logical to offload the Belgian this season. Mignolet knows he is going to be either second or third choice, so it is better off if he does make the move to Napoli rather than Karius going to Besiktas. However, the report states that Karius is the more likely of the players to move, as he is only wanted on loan. Getting rid of him for the season may clear Klopp’s head of his costly errors in the Champions League Final, but he has not lost faith in the stopper. Yes, his mistakes cost Liverpool a trophy, but he is more capable of playing back-up to Allison than Mignolet is. After all, he helped the Reds reach the finale with his performances, and that must not be forgotten.
