Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has praised manager Jurgen Klopp, suggesting that the German is a “special person”.
The Reds are currently in Klopp’s home country ahead of their second leg round of 16 Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, and Brazilian stopper Alisson has been quick to hail the effect his boss has on the squad.
Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo (18.37), he said: “Yeah he’s a funny guy but inside the pitch and time of work he’s pretty serious and passionate guy for football.
“He puts this on us on the pitch and gives his passion for me and for my team mates and this is very good.
“He’s a good guy, I think the way he deals with everyone he treats us like his own sons and it’s everyone in the dressing and I think this makes him a special person for us.”
OPINION
It’s nice to hear Klopp taking the praise for once. The German is almost universally well thought of, but, as is the case with many managers, it is often his players who take the plaudits instead of him. It is clear to anybody looking in on this Liverpool squad that the players adore playing under Klopp, and it’s easy to see why. The massive grin, the laid back demeanour, the constant hugging – he is clearly a very affable and passionate guy, and during the course of his tenure at Anfield you can see how that has rubbed off in his players. You can talk about heavy metal football and gegenpressen all you like, but ultimately, the key change that Klopp has brought about at Liverpool has been a transformation in attitude and atmosphere. It may not have resulted in any trophies just yet, but you feel as if something huge is on the horizon, and if and when it does come off, the likeable German will cement his legendary status with the red half of Merseyside.
