Michael Owen predicted Liverpool to beat Napoli when the two face-off in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The BT Sport pundit tipped the Reds to win at the Stadio San Paolo but backed both teams to score during their upcoming clash.
Owen also shared that Reds attacker Daniel Sturridge was currently causing Jurgen Klopp a welcomed headache, in his opinion, due to scoring another quality goal during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday.
“Napoli failed to score in Belgrade against Crvena zvezda in their opening game but that was only the third time they have failed to find the back of the net in 29 CL ties,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.
“Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has never lost to the Reds in the CL (W3 D1) although that one draw was the famous 2005 final in Istanbul when Liverpool came from 3-0 down to beat Milan on penalties and give the Reds their fifth European Cup/Champions League.
“Liverpool played their part in a high-class game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and few would have begrudged them their point via another quality goal from Daniel Sturridge. The striker is certainly giving Jurgen Klopp a welcome headache ahead of another massive week for the club.
“Tip: Liverpool to win and both teams to score.”
OPINION
Owen is spot-on with his assessment on Sturridge as the forward is certainly making a good case for himself why he should be playing. The 29-year-old is making the most of any opportunity he gets to play by scoring vital goals for his side and his strike against the Blues stole all the headlines. However the forward is delivering the goods when coming off the bench and why it maybe frustrating for the English forward, perhaps Klopp should continue to use him as a super sub. Sturridge no doubt wants to play as much as possible but given the fact he is a fantastic threat to have from the bench and his previous injury record, then there’s no need to constantly start him in place of the likes of Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah. The Reds attacker is no doubt benefiting from not playing too many minutes as so far he has defied his track record with injuries and stayed fit.
