Liverpool are optimistic that attacker Bobby Adekanye will avoid being out of action for a prolonged period of time, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The regional newspaper reports on their website that the Reds are confident that their 19-year-old ace will not be on the sidelines for long following an ankle injury he sustained during the 1-1 draw with Napoli in the UEFA Youth League in early October.
It is understood that he needed oxygen on the pitch before he was stretchered off and left the ground on crutches.
Adekanye’s setback resulted in him missing the under-23’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in Premier League 2 last weekend – however, an assessment has concluded that his injury is not major, but it is not known when he will recover.
OPINION
Adekanye has not had the best of luck when it has come to injury this season. It was not long ago that he suffered a setback in terms of his knee – so it must be demoralising for him to now suffer an injury to his ankle not long after coming back from his last injury. He has proved that he is a rather injury-prone player, which is only going to hamper his progress if he continues to have spells on the sidelines. This is not healthy for the development of a young prospect like him, so he must ensure that he does not injure himself yet again later this season. Players who are injured a lot are not often seen in the highest regard, but it is not Adekanye’s fault. He is one of the under-23’s most pivotal players, which has been demonstrated by the fact that he has scored a couple of goals this season – so his teammates cannot afford for him to be out for a long time.
